Today was not a ride per se, but just a few guys getting together to send some lead downrange.
Cagiva (David), Scratch (Paul), STrider (Matt) and myself visited the Gun Emporium range in Conroe. The initial purpose of today's trip was to break in Matt's brand new Howa 30.06 with a stainless barrel (nice), but once we agreed on a date/time we opened it up to whomever else was interested. The range visit coincided with Tourmeister's previously scheduled Wrench Day up in Huntsville so we didn't expect a large turnout but we had a great time nonetheless. It was a little chilly at times, and the wind was brisk but it was blowing right at us and not across the range so that wasn't bad at all. All photos will enlarge to 800 x 600 when you click on them.
Here's David contemplating the task ahead as he looks downrange to his 200 yard targets. The rest of us stayed at 100 yards. That's his M1 to his right and Matt's Howa to his left.
I brought some of my pistols but David was the only one of us to shoot a handgun. Note the kid to David's left. He's shooting his dad's mega-expensive selective fire rock-n-roller. Lucky little $#!%. He was not on full auto or burst, but still... lucky little $#!%. Am I jealous? You betcha!
David's first two targets at 100 yards with open sights. I'm lucky to see the paper at 100 yards on open sights.
Paul getting ready to squeeze one off with his Tanker model. Lots of M1's on the range today.
And now to the main attraction. The rookie shooter (first rifle) takes aim at the 100 yard line. Note the "represent!" on the hat!
His first five shots. Down and to the right. You should see what happened after I tried to "help" him by adjusting his scope. He couldn't even get on the paper! (blush) I guess I twisted the knobs the wrong way, huh? Doh!
Matt moved to the 50 yard line and got the gun back on paper and then moved in closer to the center. He came back to his 100 yard target and look at what he did! The rookie was sandbagging us and nailed the center ring! Good shooting.
Yes indeed, the kid has the magic touch with the trigger.
Matt and David compare targets.
My Savage .308 and Matt's 30.06 on the line, ready to go.
My first attempts of the day.
Final for the day. There's 50 shots there. Can you find them all? They were all on the paper. My shoulder is SORE!
What do motorcyclists do if they aren't riding or shooting? Why, they are eating pie, of course! We headed to Vernon's Kuntry Katfish for lunch and then everyone but me had pie (I was stuffed). These are two lousy shots - overexposed and blurry - of the "Good Pie" that got them featured in Gourmet magazine. Matt had the Cherry while David and Paul had the super-duper special. It looks (and apparently tastes) much better than my photographs would lead you to believe.
Another blurry shot (I had 10 hours of sleep in the last 60 and was maintaining on Red Bull and Pepsi) of three contented customers.
