East Texas Ride - Part Deux    May 15, 2005

Steve & Rita, and Brenda & I went for a ride today that encompassed some of what was ridden yesterday, but this was Brenda's first experience into far east Texas. We went as far east as Jasper, about 20 miles west of the Louisiana border. Brenda got to see an alligator swimming in Lake Livingston but I missed it since I was trying to keep my eyes on the road like a good driver.

ticket1.jpg (57729 bytes)    Steve receiving a "performance award" by a Forest Ranger! We stopped about 1/4 mile beyond them and used the zoom on the camera which explains the less than perfect focus.. The ranger was coming the opposite way when he radared Steve and then pulled a Starsky & Hutch turn with his greenmobile to catch up to us. We were running right at 10 over the posted limit on a wide, lightly traveled, well-paved county road (63) and the ranger's spiel to Steve was that he had stopped him for safety reasons since there were so many accidents on that road. (?)

gps_051505.jpg (36344 bytes)    It's probably a good thing for us that Ranger Rick wasn't patrolling the back roads of East Texas to keep the forests safe from errant motorcyclists!
