Although not a TWT event, several of us met at Honda Of Houston for their Grand Opening on Sat, April 23. The intention was to meet up, put faces to names, try to win the $65,000 grand prize, and then go ride. I stopped at Harbor Freight to pick up some Fiamm High/Low horns for the Connie and then hit the dealership about 10 am. The first thing I saw was two Concours belonging to members of the Southern Cruisers. I chatted with Jack for a bit and then some of the TWT folks began arriving. I met Beemerdude, Paul14814, Electrified (Steve), his lovely wife Silverstreak (Elaine), Big Jugs, Scott, and soon after Dr Blackbird (Gary) showed up.
After doing the gawking/drooling thing we decided to head out about 11:30 or so. Steve took the lead because he had lived in the northern area in his youth and knew some good roads. As best my memory will recall:
290 N > 362 N > Whitehall - we stopped and got a drink and met a long time hard core rider on a ragged out former Police Harley. This guy seemed to have been anywhere and everywhere and claimed to have over a million miles under his belt. We had no reason not to believe him. He told us to take 3090, and it was very good advice. Great road. Big Jugs, Scott and Paul took their leave at this point to head home towards the Katy area. Whitehall 362 N > 105 W > Hwy 6 N > 3090 N and from there it was pretty much a blur. I didn't have the GPS on Route Tracking the whole time so some of this may not be correct. 3090 N > 149 E > 1486 S > 105 E where Steve, Elaine and I stopped and had lunch at the Relay Station. From there Steve and Elaine were going to start heading back in their home direction (SW Houston) and I headed for The Woodlands.
Only one scary part to the whole ride... as we were approaching the 1774 / 105 intersection a Suburban made the right turn off of 105 to go 1774 north and he missed the turn. He wound up coming across the left turn lane that we were in. Steve was in the lead and if we had been 5 seconds faster the guy would have t-boned Steve's bike.
We kept to the speed limit or under for most of the ride and it was very pleasant even when a Grimes County Sheriff going the other way turned around and followed us into town. No tickets today. It was an easy day in the saddle, only 171 miles total.
