A big win for digital defenders this week! Jeremiah Malfroid, 33, a suspected child predator profiled in our most recent Thorn Alert, is in custody after turning himself in to local authorities in California. He is currently being held at the Butte County Jail, on federal child pornography charges.

ICE Recognizes Role of Social Media

Marlon Miller, special agent in charge for ICE Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) for this case released the following statement,

“I’d like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone who shared, posted, or tweeted this information, which no doubt helped get this individual off the streets. Social media has once again proven to be an invaluable asset in HSI’s efforts to identify and locate offenders in child sexual exploitation cases.”

We want to echo Special Agent Miller’s words and reiterate the importance of social media in this win. The description of Jeremiah Malfroid, and his crimes were shared on Facebook over 200,000 times. This win is a result of your effort and we would like to extend our thanks to all of our supporters who continue to help us aid in the capture of known predators by sharing our Thorn Alerts through social media and email.
