Women Moving Millions

2 Minute Read

This past weekend, Thorn Co-Founder Demi Moore and Thorn Executive Director Julie Cordua had an opportunity to join an incredible group of women (and a few great men) at the Women Moving Millions conference in New York. Women Moving Millions is a global network of women who are making unprecedented gifts of one million dollars or more for the advancement of women and girls.

Women Moving Millions Around the World

On Thursday evening, at the opening of their annual meeting, we had the pleasure of sharing the story of Thorn and how we came to our work of driving technology innovation to fight child sexual exploitation. While it was our pleasure to speak before such an incredible audience of women, it was even more inspiring to listen to the many stories and experiences of the more than 100 women we met throughout the weekend. These women are taking on some of the world’s toughest challenges – from fighting Ebola on the front lines in Liberia to elevating women and girls around the world through education, entrepreneurship and fighting oppression.

All In For Her: Four Key Areas Where Women Can Stand Up

This week, Women Moving Millions announced the launch of its All in For Her movement that challenges women around the world to stand up, give and get involved in initiatives that advance the equality of women and girls around the world. Its All In For Her initiative focuses on four key areas – calling women to:

  1. Give Big: Challenging women to go beyond their comfort level to give significant resources to the efforts of their choice to advance issues to help women and girls.
  1. Be Bold: Go beyond dollars to get further involved. Lend your voice, your expertise and your brainpower.
  1. Apply a Gender Lens: Look at issues around the world, through a new lens and identify how it impacts women and girls.
  1. Collaborate: Expand your network and leverage the strengths of others. Working together we can elevate all of our work in this area.

We at Thorn wholeheartedly agree with these points. With our focus on technology, we’re on the front lines of how technology innovation has changed child sexual abuse and exploitation including sex trafficking – which disproportionately affects girls and women – and how it can be used as part of the solution. We’re definitely going all in for her!
