Online Risks Prevention and Intervention Resources for Youth

At Thorn, we believe that youth have the power to create safe, supportive and resilient digital communities together. It’s why we created NoFiltr to elevate authentic youth voices in the digital spaces they care about. This prevention program seeks to increase awareness among youth about online risks, change toxic attitudes that shame victims, and equip youth with the knowledge and tools they need to resist online threats.

New! NoFiltr Resource Hub

The NoFiltr Resource Hub is a comprehensive digital hub created by youth for youth that brings together online safety  and mental health resources. Highlighting youth voices throughout, the NoFiltr Resource Hub enables youth to explore educational topics surrounding online safety through editorial and digital content, test their skills through curated quizzes, and develop skills in an effort to be safe within digital spaces.

The resource hub has five different digital safety topics in one integrated stop: Sextortion, Online Grooming, Healthy Online Relationships, Digital Mindfulness, and Seeking Help. These feature training modules that address both prevention of abuse and intervention for youth experiencing abuse, with guidance on how to practice setting boundaries, how to talk with peers and caregivers, as well as access advice from other youth about digital safety.

Youth Digital Programs and Partnerships Manager Adele Taylor said, “Whether a young person is going to our resource hub to proactively build knowledge about potential online risks, or they’re arriving in a moment of crisis, the resource hub will get them help when they need it.”

NoFiltr Youth Innovation Council

Additionally, NoFiltr has a Youth Innovation Council, made up of real teens going through modern day challenges. This cohort was instrumental in identifying which scenarios youth could find themselves in. The content and resources that they co-create with the NoFiltr team help build a more inclusive, safer internet for everyone.

NoFiltr’s Impact

In 2022. NoFiltr made a significant impact, starting 55,000 conversations with youth about this issue across digital platforms, growing a following of 357,000 on social media, and earning 239 million views on content. And they’re just getting started.
